The Old Marion County
Jail is considered to be one of the most historic sites in northeast
Missouri and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in
2002. Your help is needed in preserving Northeast Missouri history and
historic places. Each year a little of our important history is
forgotten or falls into irreparable condition. Landmarks of
Northeast Missouri is an organization dedicated to preserving this
history and the buildings important in its history.

Landmarks of Northeast Missouri is a
not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. It is making a concerted
effort to preserve the Old Marion County Jail building and the history
associated with this building. Please consider becoming a member
of our organization.

The Old
Marion County Jail , built in 1858 is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places for its role as the site where Confederate prisoners
were held prior to the Palmyra Massacre - October 18, 1862. The National
Register also notes the jail as a significant example of Greek Revival
architecture.
